Human Resource Generalist: Buffalo, NY

HR Generalist needed to administer policies and procedures over multi- functional areas within the HR Department with special emphasis on Labor Relations and Recruitment.

Responsibilities:

Labor Relations Duties
• Advise management on contracts, employee grievances and disciplinary procedures.
• Takes a leadership role in the collective bargaining process.
• Lead other meetings between management and labor.
• Draft proposals and rules or regulations in order to help facilitate collective bargaining.
• Interpret formal communications between management and labor.
• Investigate and handle labor grievances.
• Train management on labor relations.

Generalist Duties
• Actively participate in recruiting candidates for agency positions.
• Consult with management to identify employment needs.
• Interview candidates regarding their experience, education and skills.
• Contact references and perform background checks on job applicants.
• Conduct, update or develop new employee orientation.
• Maintain confidentiality as required concerning personnel actions, legal actions, terminations, other documents, and organizational plans.
• Providing recommendations to the Director of Human Resources on training programs, trouble areas, and other opportunities.

Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Labor relations and the collective bargaining process
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• High level knowledge of MS Word and Excel
• Able to exercise great initiative and independent judgment. 
• Able to maintain the confidential information. 
• Able to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously. 
• Solid problem-solving and business acumen skills. 
• Able to speak, write and read the English language. 
• Able to negotiate agreements and contracts. 
• Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Human Resources, Human Services, Business Administration, or related degree with 2 years experience in labor relations; or Human Resources certification and equivalent combination of education and experience.
