Project Engineer - Electrical & Controls: Food Manufacturing
Expanding food and beverage company needs an experienced Project Engineer. The position plans, directs, and executes Engineering and Project Management activities associated with the electrical and control systems for building, utilities, process, packaging, and material handling systems within the company. Leads and supports line design activities, equipment installations, plant expansions, and equipment/line/system operation/maintenance/upgrades by working with contractors, vendors and other associates. Manages multiple projects controlling scope, schedule and budget. Provides food processing & packaging technology guidance and expertise to all departments. Stays current on all essential operations of our industry, including fruit juice processing, batching, pasteurizers, CIP systems, compressors, heat exchangers, cooling towers, filters, chillers, fillers, cappers, cooling tunnels, labelers, sealers, rinsers, palletizers, conveyors, case coders, PLCs, AC drives, instruments and other related equipment & systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform the duties of an Electrical/Controls Functional Engineer, taking full responsibility for providing technical expertise in electrical and process control engineering including analysis, design, specifications, equipment selection, estimating, training, commissioning, troubleshooting, upgrades, support, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform the duties of an Electrical/Controls Project Manager taking full responsibility for developing & executing multiple projects including justification, approval, procurement, scheduling, construction, coordination, cost control, documentation, training, safety, and start up.
- Ensure all designs and construction activities comply with all applicable company requirements and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develop process flow, piping and equipment layout drawings, and construction packages; manage construction and control schedules & cost within project timeline and budget; and provide clear and concise analysis and reporting.
- Generate AutoCAD layout drawings, isometrics, panel drawings and electrical schematics to facilitate interconnection of equipment and system components.
- Generate operation & maintenance training documents and standard operating procedures/manuals as required to ensure successful project start up and operation. Be directly involved with commissioning, start up, and training.
- Identify opportunities to improve plant performance, product quality and employee welfare, provide leadership in developing and implementing practical solutions, and participate in long-range capital planning.
- Provide technical support for the operation, maintenance and improvement of processing equipment, production lines, utilities, and buildings. Support the plant maintenance departments as required for trouble shooting specific problems and applications on infrastructure and production lines.
- Work in a matrixed team environment, accepting varying roles to support company objectives, initiatives and policies.
- Responsibilities may also include unexpected job duties as required by business needs. You will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience & Skill Set Required:
- BS Engineering, preferably Electrical
- Must have at least 5 years experience in Process Controls Engineering, with 3 years experience in food processing, bottling and packaging desired.
- Must have the ability to analyze, interpret and create production line constraint data, mechanical blueprints, equipment layouts, electrical schematics, PFD’s, and P&IDs.
- Must have demonstrated competency in the National Electric Code, Rockwell/AB control hardware/software, digital networking and data storage/management.
- Must be able to travel domestically 50% of the time, including occasional weekends
- High degree of accuracy required and confidentiality is a must.
- A high level of Microsoft Office software skills is required
- AutoCAD & MS Project skills highly desired
Compensation:
Salary range is $75,000 to $85,000 commensurate with education and experience.
